30 militants killed in Bara, Orakzai Agency

* Airstrikes target militant positions in village east of Kalaya
* Seven, including four schoolchildren, killed in Lower Orakzai

By Sajid Ali

BARA/HANGU: At least 24 militants were killed and their hideouts destroyed in ‘Operation Bia Daraghlam’ in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency on Tuesday, said security officials, as aircraft attacked militants in an Orakzai village, killing six and destroying four hideouts.

In Khyber Agency, the officials said troops targeted militants in Zao and Kamarkhel, killing 24 of them and destroying two hideouts. “Security forces killed at least 24 militants and destroyed two militant headquarters and two hideouts,” said a statement by the Frontier Corps.

Also, four security personnel were injured in a remote-controlled blast in Bara Bazaar, said sources. According to the APP news agency, tribal elders from Bara tehsil have been asked to hand over 68 hardcore militants – including the Laskhar-e-Islam chief – and act in line with government directives if they want to see an end to the operation in the area, said Khyber Agency Political Agent Tariq Hayat.

Kalaya: Separately in Orakzai Agency, airstrikes targeted militants in a village east of Kalaya, killing six of them.

Orakzai: In Lower Orakzai, at least seven people – including four children who were on their way to school – were killed when armed men tried to kidnap schoolchildren.
